BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY
Martin Pilsch, Principal of Equip-Right has hands on
experience in both the seaport and intermodal equipment
industries.
While working for the port authorities of Baltimore and
Boston during the 1970’s and early 1980’s, Mr. Pilsch gained
experience in port administration, marketing, operations,
planning, finance, equipment purchasing and maintenance and
terminal construction. He has held positions as Port
Director, Director of Port Operations and as Executive
Assistant to the Port Director. He has consulted with a
number of ports, both foreign and domestic, on various
issues and has created port strategic plans, designed
terminal layouts and traffic flows, analyzed container and
general cargo facilities, developed terminal and equipment
maintenance plans and formulated marketing and sales
programs.
Beginning in the mid 1980’s, Mr. Pilsch formed Equip-Right.
This specialized consultancy concentrates on port and
intermodal
equipment. Under the umbrella of Equip-Right, Mr. Pilsch
joins with other port experts to apply his experience,
knowledge and industry contacts to the analysis, marketing
and dissemination of information for the North American
equipment market. He has conducted marketing analysis on
rubber tired yard gantry cranes, ship to shore cranes,
straddle carriers, reach stackers, toplifts, yard tractors
and spreader attachments. He has also conducted valuations
of equipment fleets for ports, stevedores and both marine
terminal and intermodal operators.
In addition to the consultancy, Mr. Pilsch represents
selected equipment manufacturers, dealers, and distributors.
Since 1984, Mr. Pilsch has represented companies such as
Letourneau Sales and Service, Sisu Terminal Systems, Kalmar
Industries, Gottwald Port Technology, Wiggins Lift Company,
Martec International, Intermodal Equipment Exchange and
Chinese crane manufacturer, ZPMC.
During the late 1990’s, Mr. Pilsch began specializing in
equipment planning for ports, marine terminal operators and
stevedores. He emphasizes the identification and analysis of
equipment manufacturers and presents his clients with
updated information on the manufacturing, delivery, and
support provided for their products. His manufactures
benchmarking presentation informs his clients on virtually
everything they need to know about specific equipment types
including the manufacturers, their equipment models,
specifications, manufacturing and delivery capabilities,
after sales support, warranty performance, supporting parts
inventories, and equipment performance in the field. The
inventory of equipment he has reported on includes,
forklifts from 2,000 to 90,000 lbs capacity, container
handling equipment such as empty container handlers,
toplifts, reach stackers, terminal tractors, yard chassis,
roll trailers, lift attachments, rubber tired gantry cranes,
straddle carriers, and dockside cranes including mobile
harbor cranes and ship to shore gantry cranes.
Since 1987, Mr. Pilsch has contributed numerous articles to
industry publications such as WWS/World Wide Shipping, World
Cargo News, Pacific Maritime, Kalmar World, and the America
Journal of Transportation. Since the mid 1990’s he has acted
as Equipment Editor for WWS/World Wide Shipping.
